A Rant About Meditation, Science and Stuff... with a Good Ending

I’d like to talk about Chi and positive thinking.

Just kidding. I don’t care about positive thinking, because nothing good ever is gonna happen anyway.

See how I did that?

When I first started meditating at White Tiger, I was really happy to just clear my head. People seem to think of meditation as some hippy weirdo sort of thing, but look at it as simply stealing away some time to just... be. To clear your head and breath and not think about stuff in your life, to just sit there in the moment and all you do is breath and be alive and maybe relax your muscles and just be. I mean, really, that in itself is irrefutable no matter who you are or what you believe.

I believe in psychology. To me, it’s one of those undeniable truths like gravity or that rain in LA is like a full moon to LA drivers. And the body follows the mind. You’re stressed, your body aches. You’re nervous, your body sweats. Again, cause and effect, undeniable.

Okay, so you’re sitting there meditating and you’re trying to channel some kind of energy or Chi or something mystical maybe... and then BAMN! you feel something and it’s real. Maybe your hands get hot. Maybe you feel some sort of real pull, some kind of charge. “I don’t if I’m convincing myself that I’m feeling this or lunch is just repeating on me or what.”

A couple scientifically proven facts: You’ve heard about the mother whose baby gets trapped under a car and her endorphins kick in and she is literally able to lift the car long enough to untrap her baby. You may have heard about how everyone gives off different levels of energy from their body. You might be skeptical of the word “aura,” but the scientific truth of it is energy waves. BPI. Our bodies do generate energy, like a windmill, if you will. It just happens.

I once saw a Discovery Channel show about an acupuncturist in Thailand who could send an electrical charge through his acupuncture needles. They rigged him up to scientific equipment and repeatedly proved that this was happening. I mean, it wasn’t some sort of X-Men thing. He didn’t shoot a laser through a wall. But he did send a significant charge through those needles.

I’m not trying to convince you of anything here, I’m simply showing you my thought process on this whole matter. Because I don’t take it lightly when I say that after over a year of this Qi Gong meditation, I can honestly and with full confidence claim that I do harness real energy when I meditate. It’s pretty freakin’ crazy. And there is a very special kind of magic that lies with the truth of science, that is not magic at all. Really, we think we are very evolved, civilized people, and so what we take for granted is that there is A LOT more we don’t yet know. Much like we were CONVINCED at one point in our history that the earth was flat. CONVINCED!

70 years ago, a “computer” would have seemed like magic. A nuclear bomb would have seemed like magic. I’m not talking 1000’s of years ago. Our grandparent’s youth! That’s nothing. That’s a minute ago!

And here, my good friends (who live in my head) is the point. Finally. Took ya long enough.

The point is that a lot of us tend to think that the truth of today is the set in stone. That how things are today will remain the same. But if you take a different perspective... And you can do it with faith, with science, with logic, with history... Use everything at your disposal to make an educated decision... Consider a new perspective about what you “know” to be true... Look at all the revolutions that changed everything people thought – the computer revolution, the industrial revolution, the renaissance... you will know that there is A LOT more out there that we don’t know... YET.

AND...

A lot of things in our lives, both big and small, which we thought were huge obstacles in our lives...

Were not.
