An Insight into Mastery

Tags: Kung Fu, Martial Arts, Mastery, Sifu Dennis Wood, Training

I was talking to Sifu Dennis last night about sparring, and he gave me some great insights into years of Kung Fu training. I mentioned how comfortable he is in his movements and looking for specific shots. He shared, that he has never taken lesson or properly studied Muay Thai. He said the same thing about boxing; and the he had went to Freddie Roach’s gym once to work out with some friends on pads. He stressed the point that all of his skills have been developed from he's decades in Kung Fu.

Just like with most things in life, it’s essential to build on a solid foundation. His years of practicing the White Tiger's centuries old techniques, have developed into an awareness and skill level that has practioners of other disciplines scratching their head. Every day that you practice, train, and condition your body is a building block to your skyscraper of mastery. This is applicable in most everything in life, but without a doubt the law in martial arts. 10,000, 10,000, 10,000 times!

Make sure you are putting in the work to build that solid foundation. If you have questions on how to improve your training, please don’t hesitate to ask one of your instructors. Happy Training.
