First off, sorry for the “Rice” blog. I just went back and read it. Wow.
I went in for a job interview yesterday and, in talking about the learning curve and such, I said this:
“...it’s like this black eye I have – because I study Kung Fu. It was a price I paid to learn a valuable lesson. And really, I got a great deal – because this black eye is gonna go away. What I learned is invaluable...”
And then I was asked about what I did for fun:
“Like I said, I study Kung Fu. I really love it. I mean, first, it’s a great stress relief. It’s also a great work out – I quit my gym membership and just go here now..."
(note: I never follow a “first” with a “second” or “third”...)
"...And we do Qi Gong meditation with is fantastic – also for stress and just to focus yourself, which is tantamount...."
(I did use the word tantamount.)
"...But more than that, there’s something about getting through the fear, like this black eye – I got hit in the face, which is a very scary thing, but not only did I do it, it’s no longer foreign to me – I know that I can handle it where it to happen again. There’s not a lot of fear there anymore. And in general, if someone where to attack me in the street – I mean the chances of getting attacked or mugged are so small, but if it happened, I feel I could handle myself. The point is the amount of confidence I get from it. It’s very empowering.”
Well, I didn’t get the job. But I beat the crap out of the guy who interviewed me. And that’s what Kung Fu is all about!
Of course you know I’m kidding about that last part. But were that interviewer to attack me afterwards in the parking lot... I’m just sayin.
